ohn Michael Brassey is a native of Idaho and a 1971 graduate of the University of Idaho School of Law. Following his admission to the Idaho Bar, Mr. Brassey served as deputy director of the Department of Finance, a regulatory agency with jurisdiction including banks, intrastate securities offerings and sales, savings and loan associations, credit unions, collection agencies and finance companies. In 1979, he assumed responsibility for the Business Regulation Division of the Idaho Attorney General's Office, serving as the division chief in charge of all state enforcement related to the Departments of Finance and Insurance. From 1981 to 1995, he engaged in private practice, focusing on government relations, banking, financial, insurance and corporate law matters and acquisitions involving regulated companies. In 1995, Governor Batt appointed him to be the director of the Idaho Department of Insurance and subsequently as the head of the Governor's Division of Financial Management.
Mr. Brassey is a member of the Boise and American Bar Associations, the Idaho State Bar, and is a past chairman of the Idaho State Bar Business and Corporate Law Section. He has served as a member of the Governing Council of the section and chairman of the section Legislative Committee. He is a bird hunter, fly-fisherman and golfer and enjoys both downhill and cross-country skiing.
